Sarandí Grande commemorates 201st anniversary of Battle of Sarandí

Commemorations were held in Sarandí Grande to mark the 201st anniversary of the Battle of Sarandí, a decisive military engagement that occurred on October 12, 1825. The battle was a key moment in the Cruzada Libertadora, where oriental militias led by Juan Antonio Lavalleja fought against the forces of the Empire of Brazil to end the occupation of the Banda Oriental.

The anniversary events included patriotic ceremonies at the local Obelisk, where floral offerings were placed, and a civic, military, and traditionalist parade. During the proceedings, students from Escuela Nº 58 buried a time capsule containing messages for future generations.

Local and national authorities attended the acts, including Florida interim Intendant Andrea Brugman, Sarandí Grande Mayor Maximiliano Ripoll, and National Director of Education Gabriel Quirici. The ceremonies concluded with a central act at Plaza Gallinal.
