Sarandë municipality water supply failure leaves residents without water for three months
Deputy Ina Zhupa of the Democratic Party criticised the Sarandë municipality and the regional water company for mismanaging a public‑funded water‑distribution project in the village of Gjashtë. About €400,000 (including VAT) was paid to the contractor COGREN shpk, yet the works remain incomplete and of poor quality, leaving residents without water for more than three months during the peak tourist season. Zhupa demanded transparency on the use of funds, accountability for the delays, and that those responsible be held to account.
The contract, originally set for eight months and supposed to be finished by December 2025, has not been met, with the site described as a neglected construction site. The lack of water supply threatens daily life and tourism in the area, prompting calls for corrective action and proper oversight of public projects.
