Sarawak allocates RM1.08 million to northern schools

Seven missionary schools in northern Sarawak have been allocated a combined RM1,085,266 under the first phase of the Sarawak Missionary Schools Fund Assistance 2026. This funding aims to improve infrastructure and upgrade educational facilities to create a more conducive learning environment.

The allocation for the Northern Zone covers institutions under the supervision of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Miri’s Mission Authority, including areas such as Miri, Bintulu, Limbang, and Marudi. One recipient, Sekolah Menengah Bantuan St. Joseph Miri, received RM155,038 to renovate the Francis Assisi Hall and purchase equipment including smart televisions, tables, and chairs.

Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that the assistance, provided through the Unit Hal Ehwal Agama-Agama Lain (UNIFOR), is part of a broader state initiative that has distributed RM20 million to missionary schools across Sarawak. The program also extends to government-aided Chinese vernacular schools and private Chinese secondary schools to support talent development and educational quality.
