Sarawak authorities conduct immigration arrests and investigate store attacks

Authorities in Sarawak have conducted separate enforcement and investigative actions involving immigration and criminal activity. In Bintulu, a joint operation by the Sarawak Immigration Department and the Bintulu Region Marine Police Force resulted in the arrest of 84 foreign nationals. The operation, which took place between September 21 and 22, involved inspections at six locations. Of the 127 individuals inspected, 82 were Indonesian nationals and two were from the Philippines. Some suspects reportedly attempted to evade officers by hiding in difficult-to-access areas, including beneath workers' housing units.

Separately, Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing has called for a comprehensive police investigation into a series of attacks on 24-hour convenience stores across Kuching, Sri Aman, and Bintulu. The incidents involve arson, vandalism, and the use of suspected incendiary or explosive objects. Tiong noted that several outlets belonging to the same chain were targeted within a 24-hour period and expressed concern that some attacks occurred while people were still inside the premises. He urged investigators to determine if the attacks are part of an organized operation and to identify any masterminds behind the violence.
