Sarawak electoral boundary review receives 18 objections

The Election Commission (EC) of Malaysia has received 18 formal objections regarding the proposed seventh review of electoral constituency boundaries in Sarawak. According to EC Chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun, the representations were submitted online and primarily concern changes to polling districts between state constituencies, as well as proposed names for certain state constituencies.

Specific areas mentioned in the objections include Sarikei, Bintulu, and Sibu. The EC noted that the public has until September 30 to submit views, including support or further objections, before the display period concludes.

In a related engagement, EC officials held a working visit to the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) on September 24 to discuss recommendations for the delimitation of federal and state electoral constituencies. The visit aimed to facilitate discussions between the two organizations regarding the administrative and local perspectives of the proposed review. The EC stated that boundary determinations will consider factors such as voter numbers, geographical conditions, and locality, applying specific criteria to the unique requirements of each area.
