Sarawak government allocates RM1.35 million for disaster aid

The Sarawak government has disbursed RM1.35 million in assistance to victims of various disasters throughout 2026. The aid covered individuals affected by storms, fires, landslides, floods, and droughts.

Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, the Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, stated that assistance is tailored to the specific needs of victims. Immediate support, such as food, is typically provided first, followed by a detailed assessment of household profiles to determine further requirements. Aid packages include dry food, clothing, bedding, building materials, and small business assistance.

Breakdown of the disaster assistance includes:

• Fires: The largest expenditure at RM636,300, covering 92 cases and 422 victims. • Floods: RM331,710 provided for 14 cases involving 1,714 victims. • Storms: RM205,700 allocated for 104 cases involving 378 victims. • Drought: RM143,173 distributed for 36 cases affecting 5,149 victims. • Landslides: RM36,300 provided for 12 cases involving 59 victims.
