Sarawak housing developers support new sector rating system

The Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (SHEDA) has expressed support for the Sarawak Government's initiative to introduce a comprehensive rating system for the housing sector. SHEDA President Dato Augustine CH Wong stated that a performance-based system with clear, fair metrics will enhance transparency, accountability, and consumer protection while providing an accurate view of developer performance.

To improve industry technology, SHEDA is promoting the use of Industrialised Building Systems (IBS), though implementation faces hurdles such as high initial costs and low project volume. Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding between the SHEDA Institute and Curtin University Malaysia aims to advance human capital development, research, and technology adoption in the construction sector. This includes digital initiatives like Building Information Modelling (BIM) training to bridge the gap between academia and industry needs.
