Sarawak Immigration Department detains 35 foreigners in Kuching raids

The Sarawak Immigration Department (JIM) detained 35 foreign nationals during enforcement operations across several locations in Kuching, including Jalan Chan Chin Ann, Jalan Stutong, and Moyan Square.

During the raids, which involved 45 enforcement personnel, 57 individuals were inspected. The detainees include 24 Indonesian nationals and 10 Vietnamese nationals, along with one Chinese man. The individuals, aged between 18 and 57, are suspected of immigration offenses such as overstaying, abusing visit passes for employment, or lacking valid travel documents.

Deputy Director General (Operations) Dato’ Lokman Effendi Ramli stated that the detainees have been moved to the Semuja Immigration Depot for further investigation. Authorities also issued 29 witness summonses to assist in the ongoing probe. Officials warned employers against hiring or sheltering undocumented migrants, noting that such actions are subject to legal consequences.
