Sarawak Legislative Assembly debates conduct and regional development

During the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly sitting, members addressed matters ranging from parliamentary conduct to regional infrastructure development.

Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor emphasized that parliamentary privilege must adhere to the House’s Standing Orders. She argued that while members have the right to question government policy, they must not use freedom of speech to make unsubstantiated accusations against fellow members, noting that such conduct undermines the dignity of the Assembly.

Regarding regional development, several assembly members highlighted the need for improved infrastructure. In Machan, Allan Siden Gramong reported 254 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects recorded between 2021 and 2026, focusing on community roads and longhouse facilities. In Jepak, Iskandar Turkee called for accelerated projects involving affordable housing, clean water supply, and road upgrades to support the B40 and M40 groups.

In Tellian, Royston Valentine requested the acceleration of development projects, noting that RM25 million has been allocated for 120 new or upgraded projects between 2022 and 2026. These include access roads, bridges, and community facilities, alongside RM98 million in projects under the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) aimed at transforming the Mukah landscape.
