Sarawak Metro pushes KUTS forward with naming‑rights deal and first ART trains
Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd signed its inaugural Station Naming Rights Agreement for the SM07 Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) station at The NorthBank, Stutong, naming it The NorthBank IBRACO. The deal, witnessed by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Openg and Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, makes IBRACO Berhad the first corporate partner in the KUTS (Kuching Urban Transportation System) naming‑rights programme and highlights a move toward diversified, non‑fare revenue for the network.
In parallel, the first two ART trains arrived in Kuching, marking a transition from construction to system integration and pilot‑operation preparation. Minister Lee noted progress on the hydrogen production plant at the Rembus depot, which will generate up to one tonne of green hydrogen per day to power the ART fleet. Both milestones signal accelerating development of Sarawak’s modern public‑transport ecosystem.
