Sarawak ‘Mini Putrajaya’ project shelved due to land issues

The proposed development of the Federal Administrative Centre (FAC) in Rambungan, Sarawak, has been shelved. Originally conceived in 2020, the project was intended to serve as a ‘Mini Putrajaya’ to house various federal departments and agencies within the state.

Sarawak Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, stated that the project was a collaborative effort between the Sarawak and federal governments. The planned site spanned approximately 2,020 hectares and was designed to provide a structured administrative area, with infrastructure such as the Petra Jaya–Rambungan route previously planned to support the location.

However, the development failed to proceed as intended due to several constraints, most notably land-related issues and significant delays in project implementation.
