Sarawak political leaders hint at possible GPS announcement

Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the information chief of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), has suggested that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition might make an announcement on October 23. While he could not confirm if a formal meeting is scheduled, he noted that such developments could potentially involve the leadership of the coalition's four component parties: PBB, the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), and the Sarawak People’s Party (PRS).

Regarding the timeline for the next Sarawak state election, Abdul Karim stated that the process depends on the dissolution of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly. Once the Premier dissolves the Assembly with the consent of the Sarawak Governor, the Election Commission (EC) will be notified. He noted that the EC typically determines the nomination and polling dates, with recent trends suggesting a campaign period of approximately two weeks.
