Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Openg Announces Two‑Month Bonus for State Civil Servants
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced a special financial assistance equal to two months' salary for state civil servants, revealing the plan ahead of the upcoming Sarawak budget. He said the move is possible because the state's revenue has doubled from about RM7 billion to RM14 billion since he took office and the first six months of the current year have shown one of the highest collection rates on record.
Openg also outlined development initiatives for Sarikei, including tourism, green‑economy and high‑value agriculture projects, the extension of the runway at Tanjung Manis Airport to accommodate ATR aircraft, and the addition of ten dialysis machines at Sarikei Hospital. Detailed revenue figures will be disclosed when the budget is tabled.
