Sarawak Premier reports revenue exceeds federal allocations

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has stated that the state’s revenue exceeded total federal allocations received between 2022 and 2025. Addressing a Ministry of Finance presentation that suggested federal spending on Sarawak and Sabah was higher than the revenue generated by those states, the Premier clarified that Sarawak’s own figures show the state generates more income than the level of federal funding it receives.

In a separate development regarding the Sarawak-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Transformation Programme, Abang Johari announced that the future of SOEs lacking strategic value will be determined in the Sarawak 2027 Budget. The state is considering consolidating, merging, or restructuring various entities to ensure assets generate greater value. This includes preliminary considerations for consolidating several port authorities under the Sarawak Ports Authority (SARPA). The Premier emphasized that entities with overlapping mandates or duplicated functions may face difficult decisions to ensure all investments have clear strategic justification.
