Sarawak STOLports to receive RM30 million for upgrades
The Malaysian Ministry of Transport has approved RM30 million to upgrade the Ba’kelalan and Long Banga Short Take-Off and Landing (STOLport) airports in Sarawak. Deputy Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah stated that RM15 million will be allocated to each facility.
The upgrades will include terminal improvements and the potential extension of runways, depending on the specific terrain and safety requirements of each site. Currently, the limited runway sizes restrict landings to small aircraft carrying only nine passengers.
By extending the runways, the ministry aims to enhance air connectivity, facilitate easier movement for local residents, and improve tourist access to Sarawak's remote inland areas.
