Sarawak targets growth in creative and business event sectors

The Sarawak government is focusing on expanding its creative and business event industries through digital integration and strategic growth. Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has encouraged young people to view literature and creative content as viable career paths by utilizing digital platforms such as social media, podcasts, and artificial intelligence.

To support this, the state aims to modernize the presentation of arts and culture through short films, animation, and digital performances to reach wider and international audiences. This initiative aligns with Sarawak’s goal to develop a digital creative industry that preserves cultural identity while generating economic value.

Simultaneously, Business Events Sarawak is working to advance the state’s business events sector in alignment with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030). Discussions between industry leaders and the state government focused on leveraging Sarawak’s international reputation to attract larger-scale events. Key areas for development include improving infrastructure, venue capacity, accommodation, and air connectivity to remain competitive within the ASEAN region.
