Sarawak to establish authority for lake and river development
The Sarawak government plans to establish a specialized authority to coordinate and manage the development of the state's major lakes and natural rivers over the next five years. Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stated that this authority will oversee areas with high tourism potential, including Batang Ai, Mulu, Baleh, Bakun, Murum, and Bengoh.
The initiative aims to transform these water bodies into organized tourism assets by developing resorts and supporting facilities. A systematic approach is intended to improve visitor safety and facilitate easier access for tourists. Additionally, the Premier noted that local communities could benefit by creating their own tourism packages, integrating historical and cultural attractions to create new business opportunities.
