Sarawak Velodrome Centre construction in Kuching to begin next year

Construction of the Sarawak Velodrome Centre in Kuching is expected to begin next year. The Sarawak government has already identified a site for the new cycling facility.

Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, stated that the project has been briefed to Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg. The Premier previously announced the plan during a flag handover ceremony for the Sarawak contingent.

The facility aims to provide local track cyclists with a dedicated venue for training and competition. Currently, Sarawak athletes must travel to Peninsular Malaysia to access suitable velodromes, often having to wait for host facilities to become available. A local venue is intended to allow for more consistent training and development programs.
