Sardines recognized as top health food as Vietnam expands global exports

Sardines have been identified by nutrition experts at the Cleveland Clinic as a top-tier healthy food choice, surpassing salmon in certain nutritional aspects. According to nutritionist Julia Zumpano, sardines are highly valued for their high omega-3 content, providing approximately 2g of omega-3 per 85g serving.

Beyond omega-3 fatty acids, which support heart and brain health, sardines are rich in essential micronutrients including calcium, iron, vitamin D, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, manganese, and selenium. They also provide various B vitamins and vitamins A, E, and K.

In Vietnam, sardines are found in marine and brackish water areas. Beyond local consumption, Vietnamese canned sardine products have expanded into the global market. Vietnamese exporters currently trade with approximately 40 international partners, supplying markets including Japan, Australia, the United States, Canada, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, and Bangladesh.
