Sardinia: Adiconsum calls for stricter controls against summer incivility

Adiconsum Sardegna has issued an alarm regarding increasing incidents of incivility and rule-breaking by both tourists and residents during the summer season. The association is calling on the regional government and local authorities to move beyond simple reporting and implement a structural strategy involving prevention, information, control, and repression.

Commonly reported violations include the abandonment of waste and cigarette butts, the removal of sand and natural materials, damage to dunes and vegetation, illegal camping, and unauthorized fires. Other issues cited include wild parking, noise disturbances, and the presence of animals or prohibited fishing activities in protected marine areas.

Giorgio Vargiu, President of Adiconsum Sardegna, emphasized that the issue is not the origin of the individuals but their behavior, stating, “The uncivil tourist and the uncivil resident are two manifestations of the same phenomenon.” He stressed that anyone using the territory of Sardinia has the right to experience it but also the duty to respect it.
