Sardinia airport integration and new transport links proposed

Discussions regarding the integration and connectivity of airports in northern Sardinia are intensifying. Graziano Porcu, president of the Fondazione Alghero, has proposed a new transport link connecting Alghero, Sassari, and Olbia airport. He stated the goal is to provide more destinations for residents in the northwest without reducing services at Alghero, noting that current connections between these hubs via train or bus can exceed two hours.

Porcu highlighted that recent failed tenders for Alghero routes indicate current conditions are not attractive to airlines, though the Milan flight remains guaranteed through January 31. The proposed Alghero-Sassari-Olbia line is intended to run from mid-December to assist travelers during the holiday season.

In response to regional plans for airport integration, labor unions FIT CISL Sardegna have called for greater transparency and guarantees. Union leaders Claudia Camedda and Gianluca Langiu emphasized that while they support the goal of coordinating the three airports, the industrial project must clearly define investments, territorial guarantees, and perspectives for workers. They urged the regional government to involve social partners in defining the future of the integrated airport plan.
