Sardinia airport merger faces criminal investigation
The Cagliari Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal investigation into the proposed merger and privatization of Sardinia's airports. The investigation, which includes involvement from the Guardia di Finanza and the Carabinieri, focuses on the project intended to create a single holding company for the Cagliari, Olbia, and Alghero airports.
Amidst the legal scrutiny, the term sheet governing the operation—signed by the Regional Government, the Cagliari-Oristano Chamber of Commerce, F2i, and the Fondazione di Sardegna—has expired.
In response, the center-right minority in the Sardinia Regional Council has demanded that President Alessandra Todde appear before the Council to provide immediate explanations. The opposition is seeking clarity on how the operation was initiated, who conducted it, and why the agreement expired, emphasizing that the airports are critical infrastructure for the island's tourism, business, and mobility.
