Italy implements school climate and infrastructure funding

Italian regional and national authorities are implementing various funding measures to address school infrastructure and climate adaptation. In Sardinia, the regional government has approved 10 million euros to reimburse local entities for air conditioning and cooling installations in classrooms, a response to extreme heatwaves. Similarly, in Sicily, regional authorities are discussing a 16 million euro fund for school climatization and student well-being programs.

At the national level, the Ministry of Education and Merit has allocated approximately 20 million euros for classroom microclimate comfort. However, this has faced criticism from local officials and political figures who argue the funds are insufficient, noting that the allocation of roughly 3,153 euros per institution provides only minimal support per student.

Additionally, a separate national fund of over 103 million euros, sourced from the 'eight per thousand' tax allocation, is available for urgent school building repairs, including seismic upgrades and asbestos removal. Meanwhile, in Sicily, legislative debates continue regarding administrative compensation for former provincial leaders and funding for municipal employees.
