Sardinia approves emergency response and monitoring investment

The regional government of Sardinia has approved a significant investment package to strengthen its civil protection and emergency response capabilities. The plan includes 17.1 million euros dedicated to upgrading structural and technological resources, such as the modernization of operational centers, offices, and coordination hubs with advanced hardware and software.

A portion of these funds is earmarked for the strategic enhancement of the regional mobile column between 2027 and 2028, which will acquire new land and sea vehicles to manage fires, hydrogeological risks, and medical emergencies. Additionally, 2 million euros are allocated for 2027 to provide new equipment to municipalities and volunteer organizations.

In a separate but related technological push, 12 million euros have been allocated for advanced monitoring capabilities. This includes 7 million euros for a regional Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) program and 5 million euros for satellite Earth observation services. These technologies aim to improve the detection of wildfires, search and rescue operations, hydrogeological monitoring, and environmental surveillance, providing operators with faster and more precise data for decision-making.
