Sardinia bids €7.5 million to host 2028 Vuelta a España start

Sardinia has submitted a €7.5 million bid to host the opening stages of the 2028 Vuelta a España. The regional government has allocated these funds to secure the first three stages of the race as part of a broader strategy to boost tourism through major sporting events.

The bid coincides with the 700th anniversary of the founding of the Kingdom of Sardinia. If successful, this would mark the first time a Grand Tour has started on the island, which has previously hosted stages of the Giro d'Italia.

This move follows a trend of the Vuelta a España hosting its start in foreign locations, such as Monaco, Portugal, and Italy. The organizers, Unipublic, have been increasingly utilizing international starts for the race.
