Sardinia Blue Zone study links daily movement to better memory perception

A study published in the journal Experimental Gerontology involving older adults in Sardinia’s Blue Zone suggests that daily movement and physical health perceptions are closely linked to memory health.

Researchers found that increased daily movement, reduced sedentary behavior, better perceived physical health, and higher confidence in memory abilities were associated with fewer subjective memory complaints. While these individuals may not show clinically evident cognitive impairment, the study notes that reporting subjective memory issues can sometimes indicate an elevated risk for conditions such as dementia or depression.

Understanding these determinants may assist in designing preventive interventions to improve quality of life and reduce age-related health problems.
