Sardinia dog attacks injure child and police officer

Multiple dog attacks have been reported in Sardinia, leading to injuries of a child and several adults.

In Gallura, a 9-year-old boy was severely injured by two dogs. The child underwent reconstructive surgery in Sassari to repair facial damage, including his eyelid, after the attack. Authorities are investigating the owners for potential negligence, as reports suggest the animals were frequently allowed to roam the streets without muzzles. Local police and health officials have secured the animals for quarantine.

In Sanluri, two dogs—a German Shepherd and a mixed breed—attacked three people within a twelve-hour period. The victims included a 70-year-old man and a local police officer, Donatella Sanna, who was injured while attempting to assist a young woman bitten by the animals. The local animal control units (barracelli) intervened to locate the owner and secure the dogs.
