Sardinia establishes anti-mafia and corruption oversight commission

The Sardinian Regional Council has unanimously approved the establishment of an inquiry and oversight commission to monitor organized crime, corruption, and criminal infiltration within the region.

Proposed by the Uniti-CR group and presented by Regional Councilor Valdo Di Nolfo, the commission aims to strengthen the Parliament's ability to prevent and analyze risks. Di Nolfo noted that while Sardinia is not a traditional mafia stronghold, the transfer of high-security and 41-bis prison inmates has introduced organized crime to the area.

The commission will specifically focus on preventing infiltration in the economy, public contracts, subcontracts, and the management of local administrations. This oversight is deemed critical due to significant upcoming investments in Sardinia, including European funds, PNRR resources, and various strategic large-scale infrastructure projects.
