Sardinia flight route tender fails for Alghero-Milan connection
A regional tender to assign the Alghero-Milan Linate flight route under the territorial continuity regime has failed for a second time, as no offers were received. The Sardinia Region is now tasked with organizing a new bidding process to secure the connection.
To prevent a service interruption, ITA Airways has formally communicated its willingness to extend the current service until January 31, 2027. This extension aims to bridge the gap between the end of the current contract and the implementation of the new territorial continuity model, which is expected to begin on February 1, 2027. The regional government intends for the new regime to provide better conditions for passengers, including lower fares and increased flight frequencies.
Local officials have criticized the repeated failure of the tenders, noting that the administrative process has become a cycle of failed bids followed by emergency bridge solutions. The goal remains to stabilize the Alghero-Milan link and integrate it into the broader regional mobility framework.
