Sardinia highlights historic villages and traditional gastronomy

Sardinia offers a diverse range of cultural and gastronomic heritage, from its historic coastal villages to its ancient dairy traditions.

Among its most notable historic villages are Carloforte, located on San Pietro Island and founded by Genoese fishermen; Bosa, known for its colorful houses along the Temo River; and the medieval fortified town of Castelsardo overlooking the Gulf of Asinara.

In the island's interior, particularly in the Barbagia region, the Fiore Sardo DOP cheese remains a significant culinary staple. With origins dating back to the Nuragic era, this sheep's milk cheese is produced using raw milk from indigenous Sardinian sheep and has held Protected Designation of Origin status since 1996.
