Sardinia hosts theater‑dance tribute to Nobel laureate Grazia Deledda

On 5 August, the town of San Giovanni di Sinis in Cabras, Sardinia, will present “Deledda e Duse – La rivoluzione silenziosa” as part of the “Grazia Deledda 100” celebrations marking the centenary of the 1926 Nobel Prize in Literature. The event is organized by Italy’s Ministry of Culture, the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, the Fondazione Mont’e Prama and the Association of Local Entities for Cultural Activities.

The multidisciplinary performance combines theatre, contemporary dance and live music. It is choreographed by Emanuela Bianchini, with principal dancer Damiano Grifoni and soloists from Mvula Sungani Physical Dance. Actress Lia Careddu delivers the spoken text, while singers Flo and Serena Pisa, guitarist Ernesto Nobili, cellist Erasmo Petringa, multi‑instrumentalist Francesco Di Cristofaro, drummer Marco Caligiuri and a string quintet provide live accompaniment. The show creates a dialogue between Deledda and early‑20th‑century actress Eleonora Duse, using Deledda’s novel “Cenere” as a thematic bridge, and aims to reinterpret the writer’s legacy for contemporary audiences.
