Sardinia landscapes feature unique architecture and desert-like dunes

The island of Sardinia offers diverse natural and architectural landscapes, ranging from the coastal dunes of Piscinas to the sustainable designs of architect Alberto Ponis in Gallura.

In the southwestern Costa Verde region, the Piscinas area features massive golden sand dunes reaching heights of approximately 60 meters. Shaped by the Mistral wind, these dunes create a landscape reminiscent of the Namib Desert in Namibia, where sand meets the ocean.

In the Gallura region, architect Alberto Ponis has spent decades developing a style that integrates buildings with the local environment. Drawing from his training in Florence and London, Ponis has designed over two hundred homes between the 1960s and 1990s. His work utilizes local stone and follows the traditional 'stazzo' model, creating low, elongated structures that harmonize with the granite rocks and Mediterranean landscape.
