Sardinia minimally affected by Italy's foreign student cap
An analysis by Tuttoscuola indicates that Sardinia will be the Italian region least affected by new government regulations setting a 30% cap on foreign students in classrooms. These rules, scheduled to take effect for the 2027-2028 school year, will impact only one out of 195 classes in the region, representing just 0.5% of its total classes.
Nationally, the report based on 2024-25 data shows that 9.1% of Italy's 365,935 active classes exceed the 30% threshold for foreign students. This affects 4,295 schools. The highest incidence of classes exceeding the limit is found in primary schools, where 13.8% of classes are above the threshold, followed by nursery schools at 12.5%, middle schools at 9%, and high schools at 3.5%. In contrast to Sardinia, Emilia-Romagna is identified as the region most affected, with nearly 20% of its classes exceeding the cap.
