Sardinia regional updates: Resort disputes, drownings, and safety measures

Several regional developments are occurring across Sardinia. In Narbolia, a dispute continues over a closed five-star resort in the Is Arenas pine forest. The Milanese company Reinvest, which has reportedly invested 30 million euros, aims to relaunch the site with a 100-million-euro project including three hotels and villas. However, the municipality maintains that the existing development agreement is outdated, leading to a legal impasse.

Tragedy struck the Is Arenas coastline as a 47-year-old German tourist drowned while swimming. This marks the third drowning in the Narbolia area within 50 days, highlighting the dangers of the local currents and the lack of lifeguard services on the beach during certain periods.

In Olbia, Mayor Settimo Nizzi is addressing concerns over local crime and recent violent incidents. To bolster security without resorting to vigilante groups, the city plans to establish a specialized unit within the local police force using existing trained personnel. The administration is also targeting illegal housing and unregistered rentals in specific problematic areas to improve urban decorum and safety.
