Sardinia: Riformatori Sardi demand action on insularity rights
The political group Riformatori Sardi is calling for a new phase of action regarding the principle of insularity in the Italian Constitution. Marking ten years since the initial mobilization that secured the inclusion of insularity principles in Article 119, the group argues that the constitutional provision has yet to produce sufficient operational results for the citizens and businesses of Sardinia.
Party leaders, including Aldo Salaris and Gabriella Mameli, stated that the current legal framework has not effectively addressed the disadvantages faced by the island, particularly in the sectors of transport, energy, and logistics. To address this, the group plans to submit a bill to establish a monitoring body within the Regional Presidency. This body, composed of experts in constitutional law and economics, would be tasked with overseeing national laws and acts to ensure they do not violate Article 119, providing the regional government with grounds for potential appeals to the Constitutional Court.
