Sardinia to integrate climate change scenarios into civil protection plan
Sardinia is set to become the first region in Italy to integrate future climate change scenarios into its Regional Civil Protection Plan. This initiative, presented during the National Civil Protection Week, is a key component of the Regional Strategy for Climate Change Adaptation (SRACC).
The plan aims to move beyond relying solely on historical data by incorporating future climate projections, vulnerability analyses, and preventive measures. A primary focus of this update is managing extreme heatwaves. Currently, heatwave bulletins are only issued for Cagliari, but the new strategy seeks to extend these warnings across the entire island to better protect vulnerable populations.
Regional Councilor for Environmental Defense, Rosanna Laconi, stated that the goal is to align civil protection planning with climate adaptation. The updated plan will provide provinces, municipalities, and local territories with operational guidelines to implement measures tailored to their specific local conditions.
