Sardinia celebrates Romanesque heritage with 80 church openings

The Fondazione Sardegna Isola del Romanico has announced 'Le Giornate del Romanico', a major cultural initiative celebrating the island's medieval heritage. From October 3 to November 1, 80 churches and basilicas across 70 towns in Sardinia will open for extraordinary visits and guided tours.

Specific itineraries include the Coros Romanico tour, which features 12 monuments and free shuttle services for the Figulinas and Coros routes. These tours aim to highlight the unique political and cultural history of Sardinia during the Romanesque era, a period marked by the independence of the Giudicati. To support educational outreach, the foundation is also providing a didactic board game called 'Judikes' to local schools to address the lack of medieval Sardinian history in national curricula.
