Sardinia water supply disrupted by Coghinas 2 aqueduct repairs

Ongoing repairs to the Coghinas 2 aqueduct in Sardinia have caused significant water supply disruptions across several cities, including Alghero and Sassari. The water authority Enas is working to replace a damaged section of the pipeline, but the process has taken longer than initially anticipated.

In Alghero, the situation was complicated by the inability to use water from the Cuga reservoir due to high turbidity and silt levels caused by low lake levels, which prevented effective filtration. To manage the crisis, Abbanoa has implemented an emergency plan involving scheduled service interruptions to allow reservoirs to refill overnight. Water tankers have been deployed to various locations, and water pouches are being prepared for distribution if the outage continues.

In Sassari, specific neighborhoods face scheduled shutdowns through Sunday morning to manage supply from the Truncu Reale and Bidighinzu treatment plants. While Porto Torres remains stable due to local wells and Stintino has sufficient reservoir stocks, residents in several districts of Sassari and Alghero are experiencing intermittent service.
