Italy: Safety violations halt construction and legal updates in public works

Various legal and administrative developments are unfolding across Italy involving public works and infrastructure.

In Castellammare di Stabia, authorities led by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, suspended work at the Piazza Fontana Grande construction site. An inspection by the Direzione Investigativa Antimafia and the Labor Inspectorate revealed safety violations and the absence of required credentials for a subcontractor.

In Agrigento, the Court of Review in Palermo annulled an injunction against engineer Salvatore Castaldo. Castaldo was previously involved in an investigation regarding a road maintenance contract for the Mosella, which included allegations of favoritism.

Other regional updates include the arrest of Fiore Graziano, identified as a clan leader in Quindici, for alleged extortion of construction companies. Additionally, regional commissions in Taranto addressed safety concerns on the Punta Penna bridge and rising fuel costs for Leonardo plant workers, while officials in Tarantasca met to discuss road safety improvements following recent accidents.
