Sardinian island San Pietro attracts resident seeking longevity

A food critic, Debra Coltune, relocated from Las Vegas to the small island of San Pietro, located off the southwestern tip of Sardinia, Italy. Originally visiting the community of fewer than 6,000 people to judge a local tuna festival, Coltune decided to move her family to the island within a year.

Sardinia is recognized as one of the world’s five ‘Blue Zones,’ areas known for the exceptional longevity of their inhabitants, many of whom live beyond 100 years. This is attributed in part to a traditionally plant-centered diet.

Other travel highlights include actor Billy Porter revisiting Mykonos, Greece, and the opening of the Ak-Suu Transverse trail in Kyrgyzstan. This 70-mile trekking route through the Mountains of Heaven now features a nomadic tent network, allowing hikers to travel from yurt to yurt.
