Sardinian ports handle 100,000 passengers during Ferragosto

During the Ferragosto holiday weekend, the ports of Sardinia experienced a massive surge in activity, handling approximately 100,000 passengers within a 48-hour period. A total of 140 ferry arrivals and departures were recorded across major ports, including Cagliari, Olbia, Porto Torres, Golfo Aranci, Santa Teresa Gallura, Arbatax, and Portovesme.

Olbia served as the primary gateway, managing 19 scheduled ferry movements between August 14 and 15. The port also hosted significant cruise traffic, including over 3,500 passengers on the Costa Pacifica and approximately 2,600 on the Aida Stella. In the Gallura region, more than 47,000 passengers and 16,000 vehicles transited through the ports.

The Port System Authority attributed the smooth operation during this peak period to meticulous planning, including the use of the Cocciani industrial port to rotate medium-sized ferries and optimize mooring availability.
