Yusuf Tekin explains reasoning for standardized school uniforms
Turkish Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin has addressed the reasons behind the implementation of standardized school uniforms. He explained that the decision aims to protect students from psychological pressure and discrimination resulting from visible socio-economic differences that emerged during the era of free dress, which began in 2012.
Tekin emphasized that standardized clothing enhances school security by making it easier to identify students and detect unauthorized individuals on campus. He also noted that measures are being taken to ensure these requirements do not impose an additional economic burden on families, with rules preventing school-parent associations from engaging in restrictive sales practices.
Simultaneously, local education directorates across Turkey, including in Ağrı and Sarıgöl, are conducting inspections and preparations for the 2026-2027 academic year. These efforts focus on assessing school facilities, maintenance needs, and ensuring safe, high-quality learning environments for students.
