Sarimukti Landfill in West Java Faces Capacity Crisis, Fuel Cost Surge

The Sarimukti landfill serving the Bandung Raya area in West Java is projected to reach its capacity by October 2026, with the fifth zone already appearing visually full. Officials say that, due to sub‑optimal compaction, the site looks about 90% occupied even though calculations show 30‑40% of its designed volume remains.

Rising prices for non‑subsidised diesel have forced the provincial waste‑management agency to increase its annual fuel budget by roughly 50%, from 14 billion to 21 billion rupiah. Governor Dedi Mulyadi has urged the cities of Bandung, Cimahi and the surrounding regencies to intensify waste‑reduction efforts and to prepare alternative disposal options, including re‑activating previously closed zones, pending available funding.
