Sarıkamış forests host breeding Cinereous vultures
In the Sarıkamış forests, Cinereous vultures (Aegypius monachus) are actively breeding and raising young. Monitoring efforts conducted by the KuzeyDoğa Association since 2018 have provided long-term data regarding the species' life and breeding habitats in the region.
Researchers have identified approximately 4 to 5 nests in the area, which vary by year. The active use of these nests highlights the importance of the Sarıkamış forest ecosystem for the species. Emrah Çoban, Science Coordinator for the KuzeyDoğa Association, noted that the continuous monitoring of breeding processes is vital for understanding the current status of the vultures in the region. Previous field studies have shown that the species inhabits a wider area than previously thought.
