Sarmiento de Junín sanctioned following stadium security failures
The Agency for the Prevention of Violence in Sports (APreViDe) has sanctioned Club Atlético Sarmiento de Junín, ordering the team to play its next two home matches at the Eva Perón stadium behind closed doors. Additionally, visiting fans are prohibited from attending home matches until further notice.
The disciplinary measure, Resolution No. 192/2026, follows serious organizational and security failures during a match against River Plate on October 14. Investigations revealed malfunctioning electronic ticket scanners, leading to overcrowding and unauthorized entry. Authorities also noted inadequate fencing, a lack of club officials at high-tension points, and the use of physical tickets despite a mandate for virtual sales.
Separately, an investigation by the Transparencia Activa Foundation and FOPEA into Argentina's 'Tribuna Segura' access control program found significant gaps in stadium security. The report indicates that one in three spectators enters stadiums without undergoing mandatory identity checks, despite the program's intent to verify administrative and judicial bans on violent individuals.
