Sarmiento President addresses club relegation and financial crisis
Mauricio González, president of Club Atlético Sarmiento, has addressed the club's recent relegation from the Federal A football tournament. In recent interviews, González accepted institutional responsibility for the crisis while noting that culpability is shared among the board of directors, technical staff, players, and non-member supporters.
González highlighted significant financial and structural challenges, noting that the club inherited a massive infrastructure that is difficult to maintain with current membership fees. He reported that the club began its term with three months of unpaid wages and faced difficulties due to a lack of consistent revenue from members.
Regarding the squad, González stated that the team was assembled with a budget of 37 million pesos, exceeding the initial 35 million peso limit. He criticized the performance of the players and the technical direction, noting that the team failed to secure wins even in friendly matches. Despite these setbacks, González suggested that the relegation might provide a necessary financial reset for the institution.
