Sarnese wins 42-penalty shootout against Ebolitana

Sarnese defeated Ebolitana in an extraordinary penalty shootout during the first round of the Coppa Italia Serie D. Following a 1-1 draw in regulation time, the match was decided by 42 penalty kicks, with Sarnese ultimately winning 20-19.

After the initial five penalties resulted in a 4-4 tie, the competition moved into sudden death. The teams successfully converted 30 consecutive penalties, rotating through their rosters twice, before the deadlock was finally broken. Ebolitana goalkeeper Domenico Puca missed the 41st attempt, allowing Patrick Odendo to convert the final penalty and secure the victory for Sarnese.

While the marathon shootout was highly unusual, it remains 14 kicks short of the world record set in May 2024, when FC Dimona defeated Shimshon in Israel after 56 penalty attempts.
