Sarno former mayor appeals municipal council dissolution

Francesco Squillante, the former mayor of Sarno, has filed an appeal with the Tar del Lazio to overturn the presidential decree that dissolved the municipal council. The dissolution, enacted in early June, was prompted by findings of organized crime infiltration.

Reports cited in the dissolution decree highlighted various irregularities, including relationships between an unelected candidate and individuals with criminal records, questionable associations among councilors, and municipal employees with police records. Other concerns included the leasing of municipal land to a relative of a clan leader and suspected irregularities in urban planning processes and committee appointments. The decree stated that these forms of interference by organized crime compromised the impartiality of the local administration and public safety.
