Sarno River basin plan launches €407 million EU‑co‑funded flood‑risk project
The Campania regional administration has published an open‑procedure tender for a four‑year framework agreement to implement the Strategic Program for Environmental Rehabilitation and Hydraulic Risk Contrast of the Sarno River basin. The programme totals €406,990,761.29 and is co‑financed by the European Union under the Cohesion Italy 21‑27 programme.
The tender is split into seven performance and territorial lots and will be awarded on the basis of the most economically advantageous offer, with offers due by 25 September 2026 and award expected by November 2026. The plan targets completion by 2032 and aims to increase flood‑storage capacity by more than 5 million m³, while guaranteeing a hydraulic flow of 120 m³/s at the river mouth to protect inhabited centres.
Works are organised into three macro‑areas – the Sarno and its tributaries, the Solofrana‑Calvagnola zone, and the Vesuvian area – covering dozens of municipalities. Interventions include river‑bed cleaning, embankment reconstruction, channel upgrades, expansion of the Cicalesi reservoir, upgrades to the Canal Bottaro, and dredging and sediment management.
