Saronic Gulf: Inflatable boat passes over diving spearfisher
A spearfisher narrowly escaped death in the Saronic Gulf after an inflatable boat passed directly over him while he was diving. Although the diver had a surface marker buoy in place to signal his presence, the boat operator failed to notice either the buoy or the person underwater.
Giorgos Vallis, president of the Panhellenic Union of Private and Professional Mariners (PEPIETH), issued a warning regarding the incident, stating that a minor handling error or a moment of carelessness could have resulted in a tragedy. He emphasized that in high-traffic areas like the Saronic Gulf, operators must maintain constant visual surveillance and strictly adhere to safety regulations regarding diving buoys.
